Investing in Clean Air
The Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) has allocated Clean Transportation Funding to help GTrans invest in new facilities and buses to reduce its carbon emissions and help improve the environment for our community. Current projects include the construction of a CNG Fueling Station at GTrans’ headquarters. This new station will end GTrans’ need to fuel our CNG buses offsite.
As of January 2023, preparation for the new CNG station has begun with upgrades to the maintenance facility to ensure safety while using CNG. Design plans for the construction of the CNG facility are currently in review. Construction is scheduled to begin early 2023.
Other projects through which GTrans hopes to continue reducing its carbon emissions include:
- Purchasing zero and near zero-emission vehicles
- Building electric charging infrastructure to support zero-emission vehicles
- Expanding solar panel infrastructure to maximize electricity generation and less reliance on the energy grid
