Riding GTrans is about to become even easier.
What’s New?
Regular fare customers on GTrans can now pay fare simply by tapping a credit or debit card — physical or digital — at TAP validators on buses. Credit and debit cards also now work to pay bus fare on 25 other local transit agencies that participate in TAP.
Five Key Points:
- TAP cards and cash will remain as a valid form of payment and will continue to be accepted on GTrans buses.
- Reduced-fare riders must continue using TAP cards until contactless reduced-fare payment launches (anticipated early 2027).
- Please note GTrans does not participate in fare capping.
- Customers should use the same card and same payment method throughout their trip to receive eligible TAP transfer benefits such as discounted transfers between local agencies that use TAP.
- One rider may pay for themselves and up to four additional riders. Have the customer tap once for each rider, then tap for themselves.
Using A Contactless Method of Payment
Using a credit/debit card works on all of the different types of TAP validators on GTrans buses.
- Choose the card you want to use — either a physical credit or debit card or by opening your smartphone’s wallet and tapping on a digital credit card .
- Tap it on the TAP validator when boarding a bus. When the validator lights up green, you’re good to go.
All the major credit cards are supported, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB and Union Pay.
